Event 1/27/18 at RORI NPS: Of Civil Wrongs and Rights: The Fred Korematsu Story

Event 1/27/18 at RORI NPS: Of Civil Wrongs and Rights: The Fred Korematsu Story

On Saturday, January 27th at 10:30am, Karen Korematsu, Founder and Executive Director of the Fred T. Korematsu Institute, will commemorate her father’s life as a civil rights activist. Join us to view the two-time Emmy Award winning short documentary, Of Civil Wrongs and Rights: The Fred Korematsu Story and revisit the injustices faced by Japanese Americans during World War II. The event will honor the legacy of Fred Korematsu, and discuss the importance of American civil liberties and our constitutional rights.

Executive Order 9066 was signed by President Franklin D. Roosevelt in 1942, leading to the forced removal and mass incarceration of 120,000 persons of Japanese ancestry to incarceration camps. This event celebrates the official Fred Korematsu Day of Civil Liberties and the Constitution, a day created on January 30th, 2010 by former California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger to remember the life of Fred Korematsu and recognize the importance of preserving civil liberties.

DINNER RESCHEDULED TO AUGUST 30

In light of current concerns for everyone’s health and local government recommendations, we have rescheduled our 20th anniversary annual benefit dinner for August 30, 2020. We want to protect our community and especially not jeopardize our Rosies’ health (certainly our super stars of the event!).

I sincerely ask you to buy your tickets today. Rosie the Riveter Trust relies heavily on the funds raised from this annual dinner to keep our programs afloat and our park thriving. Our Board and I look forward to seeing you on August 30 - same time, same place!

My very best,

PS. If you do not know if you can come and could send a donation, we would be most grateful. Your financial contributions support the day-to-day operations of the Trust and our ability to offer park access to youth and special programming. Thank you!
