October
25, 2007: Martha J. Lee, General
Superintendant of John Muir NHS, Eugene O'Neill NHS, Port
Chicago Naval Magazine NM and Rosie the Riveter/World War
II Home Front National Historical Park announced the selection
of Naomi Torres as Chief of Interpretation:
I am pleased to
announce that our new Chief of Interpretation will be Naomi
Torres. Naomi comes to us from Golden Gate National Recreation
Area where she has wide experience with interpretive operations
and supervision (for example, she supervised the complex
Alcatraz interp & tour program
for several years) as well as with civic engagement and relationships
with partners and communities. She has most recently run
the Crissy Field Center with her cohort from the Golden Gate
Conservancy. Some of you will know her from the time she
spent with us at Rosie the Riveter/WWII Home Front helping
us get our National Park Foundation/PGE grant outreach program
going. Working with Betty Soskin, Naomi was responsible for
producing the DVD "Of
Lost Conversations and Untold Stories."
We were impressed with the well-qualified candidates who
truly wanted to come work with us here: there is a lot of
enthusiasm for our parks, their stories, and the possibilities
ahead of us. Our management team conducted in-person interviews
with the four applicants who we considered to most closely
meet our needs and we are united in our conviction that Naomi
is the best fit for this job.
Naomi will be joining
us in the next month or two - probably mid-December, though
the details are still to be worked out.
I know you will all join us in welcoming Naomi with enthusiasm
to our four-park team.
