Don’t miss this year’s Rosie Rally Home Front Festival! Once again, on August 10th, we will gather to celebrate the legacy of Rosie the Riveter, an icon for women across the world. The festival takes place from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM, with a program of speeches and recognitions scheduled to begin shortly after 11 AM.

Immediately after the program, original Rosies will be available to take questions and share stories about their education, training, and work during World War II. Their groundbreaking efforts were hailed as critical to the war effort and to breakthroughs for women in the workplace.

This year’s festival highlights include historical WWII and park themed activities including welding demonstrations taught by the Northern California Carpenters Union, shipyard badge making, educational victory gardening; a Bay Trail history walk, a chance to board a real WWII Jeep, and an opportunity to visit Shipyard 3 and go aboard the Red Oak Victory ship to learn about ship construction.

Nature and park activities will include marine conservation demonstrations, the East Bay Regional Parks’ Nature Van with local reptiles, and the Golden Gate Parks/One Tam nature van. Other highlights include films at the National Park Visitor Center, Assemble Restaurant, and food trucks throughout the day. There will also be stage entertainment in a variety of 40’s musical styles provided by East Bay Center for the Performing Arts (more information below).

This year, instead of breaking the Guinness record, we encourage everyone to update Rosie or represent home front occupations in creative ways, or to come in traditional garb to join the largest Rosie celebration and festival yet! This year’s event will honor original WWII Rosies and home front workers and celebrate the ordinary people from many backgrounds, races and communities across the U.S. who stepped up to extraordinary challenges during WWII.

Join us for this free and family-friendly event for fun, festivities, great food, costume contests, dancing and more!

2019 Rosie Rally Home Front Festival will feature an exciting Costume Contest with 5 unique categories:

Best Traditional Rosie Costume – Pay homage to the iconic “We Can Do It!” woman herself, and give us your best Rosie the Riveter outfit – coveralls, polka-dot bandanna, and all!
Best Non-Rosie Home Front Worker – The Home Front wasn’t just Riveters! Nurses, welders, electricians, victory gardeners, and more all did their part to help the war effort.
Best Parent/Child Costume – Make it a family affair and come in matching attire, or give us your take on a Home Front theme.
Best Authentic 40’s Period Costume – Dust off your skirt suits and shoulder pads, and slip on those saddle shoes! What would Rosie (or Roger) have worn on a day off?
Most Creative Interpretation of Home Front History – Here’s your chance to get those creative juices flowing. You might come as a Liberty Ship, a Victory Garden, a Ration Book, or anything else you can dream up!

A grand prize Audience Favorite will be chosen from the winners of the contest categories above!

This event is a family celebration of the WWII Home Front effort, so we ask that you keep costumes G-rated and leave all battlefront paraphernalia (real or reproduction) at home.
